and will doing so mess up my programs and software? Currently my hard drive is set at the H: drive and i noticed when i restart my computer i get this message saying something about Directory Change Watcher error and i have to end it in order for my computer to restart. So what is this and how can I change it without affecting my programs? How can I change the letter for my hard drive?
I'm not certain if this is correct, but you may have to format your drive and reinstall your operating system so that you are prompted to select a drive letter during that process. The reason you are most likely getting the error is because the drives are named in letters according to the order that the computer searches for drives during the POST(power on self test). A:\ (1st floppy drive), B:\ (2nd floppy drive) and C:\ is the first partition on your hard disk. If there is no C:\ it may encounter and error such as the one you are getting. If you don't want to format, or don't have the means to, you can check out this link to change the boot drive letter through the windows registry,
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;223188
but remember to read the warnings about this procedure. Hope this helps. How can I change the letter for my hard drive?
If you have installed programs to the dive, or it is the main drive such as would normally be c:/ then I would advise against changing the letter. If it is simply a storage partition such as movies or music, then simply
';Right Click'; My Computer %26gt; Manage %26gt; Disk Management.
Then when the pane on the right loads simply Right Click the partition you wish to change and ';change drive letters and paths';. Only unused driver letters will be available. Hope this helps.
